Germany vs Argentina, FIFA World Cup 2014 Final Match Preview: European powerhouse takes on traditional South American flair

European powerhouse takes on traditional South American flair

The football carnival that has caught the imagination of millions worldwide finally comes to an end with a mouth- watering clash between Argentina and Germany in Rio De Jeneiro. The grand finale is a clash of style with a galaxy of stars on show ready to battle hard and claim the eternal prize every footballer dreams of. The two sides have quite a history when it comes to the World Cup and specially finals. Argentina can never forget the ill- tempered 1990 final and would be itching to extract revenge from the Germans. The winner of this final in Rio may only be ascertained after 90 minutes or a possible 120 but one thing that is certain is the winner will have to battle it out to be crowned as the World Champion.

GERMANY: Die Mannschaft start the match as favourites but they know the final will be anything but easy having been in such situations before. Coach Joachim Loew has called for calmness from his troops and the feeling back home is that its time Germany win a World Cup after going close several times. Defender Matts Hummels who was substituted at half time against Brazil with a knee problem has begun training and should be fit in time to start the final. The German strength lies in their midfield which operates like a machine with players having immaculate work rate. The likes of Kroos, Khedira, Ozil, Muller and Schweinsteiger along with the star striker Miroslav Klose makes this German juggernaut look invincible.

ARGENTINA: The South American outfit have been rock solid throughout the World Cup and very rarely has a team dominated them. Under Sabella, they have looked compact and their defence reminds us with that of the Italian side of the 2006 campaign in Germany. In such crunch matches the defence does have a lot of say on the outcome of the match and Argentina look a tough nut to crack. In attack Lionel Messi has often found himself isolated and would welcome back Angel Di Maria who was unavailable for the semi- final.

PREDICTED TEAM LINE UP

GERMANY:  Neuer, Lahm, Boateng, Hummels, Howedes, Schweinsteiger, Khedira, Muller, Kroos, Ozil, Klose

ARGENTINA: Romero, Zabaleta, Demichelis, Garay, Rojo, Perez, Mascherano, Biglia, Lavezzi, Messi Higuain

PREDICTION: The game is going to be another cagey affair with both sides difficult to break down and it would not come as a surprise if an odd goal separates the two sides.
